Natural therapies to help prevent illness, support healing and maintain good health
About naturopathy
Naturopathy combines theory and practice in the application of natural therapies to support healing and to maintain health. Its principles are based on treating each person as an individual and treating the whole person, not just the symptoms. The naturopath may use a combination of nutrition, dietary counselling, herbal medicine and lifestyle education to treat or manage your condition.
Naturopaths endeavour to choose safe, effective and gentle natural treatments. They educate and encourage clients to become actively involved in their health and to take responsibility for their own actions.
How can a naturopath help?
Naturopathy can help to prevent or to treat certain conditions as well as to help you achieve optimal health. Natural medicines may be advised to revitalise and rejuvenate without adding a toxic burden to the body.
Some naturopaths support people who have cancer by providing complementary care to aid in healing time and to decrease side effects. When people are going through traditional treatment such as surgery, chemotherapy or radiation, the naturopath can work with oncologists and surgeons to support their cancer patients. Janet Schloss has long been involved in research about cancer and nutrition, particularly for individuals going through chemotherapy and radiation. Janet has also worked extensively with clients after their cancer treatment to help with means of reducing the likelihood of metastasis and tumour growth.

What can I expect in my session with a naturopath?
Your consultation with the naturopath may take 30 or 60 minutes. You will be asked questions about your current diet, exercise habits, medical conditions, general health and lifestyle.
Your doctor may have referred you to our naturopath to help manage a medical condition, so please bring to your appointment the results of any tests, e.g. blood or pathology tests. In these cases the naturopath will work in close consultation with your doctor to help develop an appropriate treatment plan.
At your appointment your naturopath will discuss treatment options with you. These options may include dietary and nutritional advice, herbal medicine or lifestyle advice.
Follow-up appointments allow your naturopath to keep track of your progress, provide ongoing support and fine-tune your treatment plan.
